Connect ChatGPT

Connect ChatGPT to your Koltrix inbox.

Create a custom connector in ChatGPT, paste one URL, choose OAuth and approve it in Koltrix. ChatGPT can then search your mail, read a conversation and leave a draft for you to review, with sending off until an admin allows it.

Create the connector in ChatGPT

The server URL is https://mcp.koltrix.com/mcp. There is no API key.

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps and Connectors. Under Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode if your plan asks for it for custom connectors.
  2. Choose Create (or Add custom connector), name it Koltrix, paste https://mcp.koltrix.com/mcp and choose OAuth for authentication.
  3. Sign in to Koltrix and approve when asked.

Menu names vary between ChatGPT plans and change from time to time. Look for "connectors" or "apps" in ChatGPT's settings, and use the setup guide in the docs for the current names.

search and fetch: the two tools ChatGPT expects

ChatGPT's connectors and deep research look for two tools named search and fetch. Koltrix offers both, alongside its full tool set.

search takes a query and returns matching conversations as an id, a title and a link. fetch takes one of those ids and returns the whole conversation: a title, the text of every message, the link and some metadata. Together they let ChatGPT find a thread and read it without any other tool.

  • Koltrix search operators such as from:, subject:, label: and has:attachment work inside the query.
  • Both are read-only and need only the read permission.
  • The other tools, such as organising and drafting, are available to ChatGPT too once you approve them.

Cards in ChatGPT

OpenAI documents support for the MCP Apps extension in ChatGPT, which lets a tool's result appear as a small interactive card. Koltrix offers cards only to an app that says, when it connects, that it supports them, and we have not been able to confirm from outside which ChatGPT plans or surfaces draw them today.

Nothing about the setup changes either way. If you see text, you get the same tools with text results. In an app that shows cards the Send button on the draft card sends; in an app that shows text, sending needs the confirmation described on the security page.

If ChatGPT cannot connect

  • There is no option to add a custom connector

    Custom connectors can depend on your ChatGPT plan. Look under Advanced settings for Developer mode, or ask the person who administers your ChatGPT workspace.

  • The connector asks for an API key

    Koltrix does not use one. Choose OAuth for authentication and paste only the URL.

  • ChatGPT reports that assistants are turned off for the workspace

    A Koltrix owner or admin can turn them back on under Connect AI apps in the Koltrix sidebar.

  • Searches return nothing you expect

    Check you approved the right Koltrix workspace, and try a Koltrix operator such as from:acme.com in the query.

Questions about connecting ChatGPT

Do I need Developer mode to connect ChatGPT?

It depends on your ChatGPT plan. The setup guide says to turn on Developer mode under Advanced settings if your plan asks for it before it lets you create a custom connector.

Does Koltrix work with ChatGPT deep research?

Koltrix offers the search and fetch tools that ChatGPT's connectors and deep research expect, so a research request can search your mail and open the conversations it finds.

Where does my mail go when ChatGPT reads it?

The parts of your mail ChatGPT reads are sent to OpenAI and handled under OpenAI's terms. Koltrix sends only what a tool call asks for and does not receive your conversations with ChatGPT.

Can ChatGPT send email from Koltrix?

Not unless a workspace owner or admin turns sending on and you opt in when you connect. Even then ChatGPT must show you the recipients, subject and full message and get your yes first, with no more than 10 recipients a message, no Bcc and no attachments.
